His sub-heading was even more interesting. It read:
Carved out of the Muslim-majority areas of British India in 1947, it was the world's first modern nation based solely on Islam.
My gut reaction was: What's that got to do with anything?
How typical. An event offers itself to malign Pakistan and Indians pop up everywhere to offer distortions on history and policy that - in an innocent coincident of course – overlap with long held Indian policy objectives. Most WSJ readers won't know this because most outsiders are not privy to the full history of Indian antagonism toward Pakistan since this small nation's rise in 1947 after an epic and peaceful struggle.
One of the official Indian objectives has always been to question directly and indirectly the rise of Pakistan as an independent nation. That's exactly what Mr. Dhume does here, innocently of course. In lamenting the rise of a Muslim-majority nation, he conveniently forgets that it was Hindu extremism in his country that pushed the ruling Muslim elites of the region - who were a distinct race and culture by all standards - to seek the right to shape their own destiny.
Pakistan is Muslim in the same way that Israel is the world's first and only nation created in the name of Judaism and in the same way that Ireland is Catholic and India is Hindu, even if it presents itself as secular.
Instead of obsessing over Pakistan and seizing opportunities to malign it, Mr. Dhume would do well to explain to us and the world how a secular democracy in India produced 21st century's first genocide against Christians [almost 600 killed in the summer of 2009] and Muslims [2,000 burned alive in 2002].
Pakistan, despite failures of governance and politics and a history of foreign meddling in its affairs by outside powers, remains immune to this rapid and violent deterioration in tolerance that has affected the world's largest democracy.
Why do US newspapers solicit insights on Pakistan from biased, agenda-driven Indians?
Even the US government does it. Recently, Washington sent an Indian to head the USAID office in Islamabad.
This is a sign of prevalent anti-Pakistanism in some corners of US media and government.
Of course, WSJ doesn't hide its bias against Pakistan. It is not interested in offering a balanced perspective. Like most of the mainstream US news organizations, this publication has been at the forefront of demonizing Pakistan and spreading unsubstantiated rumors about Pakistan's nukes and the country's imminent breakup. To be fair to WSJ, most mainstream US news outlets have been peddling these theories as news for the past three years.
Now the US Embassy in Islamabad is recruiting Pakistanis from the media and academia [as consultants to USAID, to DoD, to CIA-linked think tanks, etc.] to beautify Washington's real face in the eyes of ordinary Pakistanis.
But Pakistanis are not stupid. They know how Washington has been treating Pakistan as a de facto enemy state and deceiving Pakistan for the past eight years.
This op-ed by Mr. Dhume is also a sobering reminder for Pakistanis that India remains the number one threat to Pakistan's long term security and stability. The Indians won't miss a chance to harm Pakistan, like they did in 1971 when they unilaterally invaded Pakistan when Pakistanis were busy in a post-election domestic squabble.
Good analysis Ahmad.Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteIt’s hard to understand the mind of an Indian and that’s the reason why the founder of Pakistan decided to get a separate country for us. The BANYA thinking has already inflicted a lot of damage on our reputation in the international media, now is the time to answer these accusations with substantive proof.
ReplyDeleteAs always Mr. AQ is trying to show the world how another country will manipulate he NYC terror plot for its advantage. Demands a creative mind indeed and Mr. AQ has plenty of it. I guess we all won’t be missing Mr. Zaid Hamid until Mr. AQ keeps writing.

ReplyDeleteDear Quraishi Sahib
It is quite evident that it is impossible that any country is without enemies. Pakistan and
the pakistanis are more in trouble is obvious; Mossad and RAW have been injected
billions of dollars to undo this nuclear state having astounding deterrence to the imposed
embargoes and purse-tightenings. CIA has its own agenda on the larger canvas and is
fully active in squeezing out the benefits for these allied organs. Khad is front-unit for
them.
The only problem is that our government is towing the agenda (mainly because of personal
gains) and our army is too under-prepared to face the extremely complex situation. It is
a multi-dimensional issue for which a real islamic spirit is needed at the highest level which
is not possible without sincerity, honesty and dedication that I find amiss in all arenas.
Pakistan has to prepare itself on all these fronts and sacrifice is one of the rare commodities
which we muslims do have to compensate for other shortcomings.
Once we prepare, the so-called hostile enemies will themselves be subdued and would be
deterred to 'befriend' and acknowledge our existence. OTHERWISE, WE ARE GONERS.
Prayers are one of the essential ingredients for which we should keep requesting for.
Regards.

ReplyDeleteDear All:
According to the U.S. official briefings to the media Time Square bomb plot case is in investigation and details yet to come out. However, at times media has incomplete and conflicting versions about the failed Time Square, bomb plot. In the meanwhile both U.S. and Pakistan are doing own investigations and matching up information for the facts in their own ways.
Despite of investigation whatever comes out of it there is on going media coverage on the case which at any rate isn’t helpful! This is a failure of the political leadership where Pakistanis have no trust on the system and taking upon themselves and resorting to the damaging acts.
Strange dynamics political leadership amazingly obedient and prompt in extending their cooperation almost desperately trying to absolve and disassociate from the act but miserably failed to prevent it. Cooperation is not in question here but the impression that they have nothing to do with it while the country is on the public trial.
Politicians have failed to understand, correct and convince internally and externally.

ReplyDeleteDear All:
Mr. Dhume has proposed a genetic solution yet based on symptomatic manifestations selectively ignoring and down playing some of the essential root causes of the terrorism. The idea of genetic overhaul by practically replacing entire double helix of political and religious value matrix is virtually questioning the existence of Pakistan. Essentially, the attempt was to make a case by associating fault back to the birth of Pakistan justifying it by fallacy without using all facts. Pakistan was born in 1947 because Hindu majority denied Muslims the rights and representation.

ReplyDeleteIt should not be a surprise to any Pakistani. India has never and will never miss an opportunity to hurt Pakistan. It is and will remain Pakistan's adversary for very distant future. The worry is from the country who has declared us as ally; recruiting Pakistanis to work against Pakistan's interest. Remember Henry Kissinger's warning of America's friendship.

Firstly, the things to be noticed are the NY times square bomb blast did not take place, saved! . Secondly, Shezad was so stupid that he booked his flight after 3 days from the incident. Even a small killer cannot live at the place of murder for a minute. ??
ReplyDeletewonderful answer ti the Racist Indian's article.
ReplyDeletenot only did i enjoy the article but the comments were extremely heartening and gratifying considering the aman ki asha BS that our own sold- out- to -the -devil TV channels are promoting.what is extrememly alarming is the timing of this event:we are bieng literally sandwiched/pressurised,squeezed between two countries that absoloutely abhor us.America has been harassing and finger pointing at our army in every way possible and recently they have been under extreme pressure to turn up the heat on the waziristan operation.the army is the ONLY nationalistic and organized institution of this country that stands up for our national interests.for us.for pakistan.THAT is what irks them.on the other side you have india that has pronounced ajmal kasab guilty because they claim he is a pakistani yet they have declared the other two accomplices not guilty and theyve resumed the hafiz saeed etc allegations at this crucial time.convenient.so to fan the hatred and besmirch the name of our army in the eyes of people and the world in general theyve initiated this new campaign;why is it that it just so happens that the pakistani accused of the Times Square attack just HAPPENS to be the son of a retired air marshal so hmm coincidence or what?this man is from a decent background.he has a wife, two kids.he has a house in lahore too.not really the profile of your average terrorist.just watch the foriegn TV channels in the next few day;they will take this point of his armed forces background and twist it in the most mean spiteful, distasteful way just to tell our armed forces that they are the boss....i can only hope and pray God's justice prevails, right wins out over wrong and i live to see this because the injustice of society/nations/the world in general only makes ones blood boil.

ReplyDeleteWhen our leaders would wake up. Our army is in complex situation, economy is going bad day by day, social unrest increasing as well (not enough electricity, worse law and order situation, injustice and corruption) and increasing pressure of planned activities. Our leader are living in fool paradise as they think American and other foreign powers would provide them safe havens after accomplishing their objectives in Pakistan. Pakistan desperately needs a leader with strong courage and Islamic character to unite the entire nation for fighting against inner and outer danger
