Indian Predicament In Kashmir

Just like the Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Indian army is cornered in Kashmir. If a war breaks out in the region, Indian soldiers have no doubt they will be facing enemy soldiers from the front and Kashmiris gunning for their necks from back.

Here is a groundbreaking report that shows, in the language of ground realities, India's lost battle in occupied Kashmir.

The report is titled, Indian Elections In Kashmir: The Impact On Freedom.

Here is the conclusion:

"State assembly elections have been held in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the past and are likely to continue to be held in the future. If history is any guide, it can safely be inferred that they will neither be accepted by the people of Jammu and Kashmir as a substitute to the right to self-determination or plebiscite, nor they diminish freedom sentiments in the valley."

  1. It sounds paradoxical, but American pressure on India may be the only realist option for bringing resolution to Kashmir. India by itself will never negotiate fairly with Pakistan or Kashmiris.

  2. James, American pressure on India is possible now with a new administration in Washington, devoid of the Bush era warriors.

This is one reason the Indians are quietly sorry to see Bush gone.

Pakistanis have discovered quite late, to their horror, that their American ally under Bush was actually conspiring against Pakistan.

With Obama, we are beginning to see signs of some pressure on India too. No one expects Obama to give Pakistan a blank check, but at least we are not seeing the anti-Pakistan bias that peaked under Bush.

That said, Bush-era warriors continue to wield pockets of influence in different parts of the US government, particularly at Pentagon, CENTCOM and CIA.

To be fair, a battle of ideas rages inside Washington and is yet to be settled. But we are still a long way from seeing a new America, one that is a force for real peace and not a sham one that disguises the usual power politics.

  4. Very well written Mr.Qureshi, I am a Kashmiri from Indian Occupied site who has lived in Srinagar for most of my life. We in Kashmir hate the Indians and love Pakistan. Infact when the Pakistan cricket team wins a match, we come out of our houses and burn crackers in front of the Indian security bunkers(Knowing very well that the Indian slum dogs will shoot at us).

Our natural/ethnic/geographic/cultural/religious/topographic bond with Pakistan is unbreakable. India is a passing phenomenon and sooner or later we will drive these slum-dogs out of our madre-wattan Kashmir.

  5. There are a few more things that I have to convey about elections in J&K. Each candidate was given crores of rupees to run for election by government of India. That was the reason that you saw so many candidates for each constituency, Infact never before has this tactic been adopted by the intelligence agencies of India. The Indian government promised crores to candidates even if they lost, all that people had to do was stand up and file nomination papers.

Furthermore Omar Abdullah and Mufti Sayed promised the people at each election speech on TV/Paper/Campaign trail that the issue of Kashmir is alive n Kickin and that these elections were just for local governance etc. The people were betrayed when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his independence dad speech from the ramparts of red fort declared that elections in Kashmir proved that the people have accepted Indian rule.

The people of Kashmir are a valiant people who despite extreme sacrifices continue their resistance against Indian rule, what Pakistan needs to do however is stop pleasing India and not give them even an inch now after conceding so much.

The Indians are a dubious nation of men filled with cunning debauchery and will never leave Kashmir unless the International community threatens them with dire consequences. This can only happen if Pakistan goes out on an all out International campaign to further show case Kashmir.

And yes people like Omar Abdullah in Kashmir alongwith the Muftis/the Sadiqs/Sogami's/Ansari's/Pundits etc are the greatest/biggest threat to our dream of independence from the Indian yoke.

  6. @nsk,

Things have changed a lot since the days of MATA HARI, however if you expect unarmed, untrained people(who only know how to pelt stones at Indian army men entrenched in mine resistant armored vehicles and number approx 800,000) to provide further proof to u, then the 120,000 plus Kashmiris who have been martyred by the Indians and lie in graves all across the Kashmir region have then according to you truly died in vain. SHAME ON U nsk to rely on operation Gibraltar when you probably can't even pronounce the word properly.
