This is tragedy and sacrifice packaged as slick entertainment. It was sickening to see the audience, and the MCs on stage, clapping every so often. Actually, this undignified, Americanised show cheapens the supreme sacrifice it is supposed to be honouring. Through the medium of the English language, the American culture has seeped deep into Pakistani life and turned us into unthinking copy cats of the Americans. We bemoan American intrusion into Pakistani politics but we fail to see that we have voluntarily surrendered to their language and culture! Which type of slavery is more reprehensible - political or mental/cultural?
